THE police are theorising that the seizure of a firearm in a St Andrew community on Sunday night is linked to the discovery of a body in the same community yesterday.
Superintendent Anthony Brown from the Duhaney Park Police Station told the Jamaica Observer yesterday that, although investigations are ongoing, detectives believe both incidents are connected.
The firearm — a 9mm pistol— was seized along with 13 rounds of ammunition in the vicinity of Molynes Road and Washington Boulevard in St Andrew. A man is also under police guard in hospital in connection with the seizure.
Reports from the Duhaney Park police are that, approximately 10:00 pm Sunday, they were summoned to West Main Drive in Maverley. When they arrived at the location, a man who had gunshot wounds was seen. The firearm and ammunition were allegedly taken from him.
Eight hours later, the body of 27-year-old Jermaine Tracey of White Lane, Kingston 11, was found in the same vicinity.
Superintendent Brown told the Jamaica Observer that about 6:00 am residents stumbled upon Tracey’s body and summoned the police. Relatives later identified him.
